Censored

The Lebanese interior ministry has banned a new play by the celebrated dramatist Rabih MrouƩ because it has some uncomfortable things to say about the 15-year civil war.

The play, How Nancy Wished That Everything Was an April Fool’s Joke, was due to be performed last weekend.

It explores the civil war through the eyes of four fighters from rival militias.

The state regularly bans any exploration of the conflict that deviates from the official line that the Palestinians caused the war.

The poster is of fighters belonging to the Arab nationalist Mourabitoun militia who were killed during the Battle of the Hotels in 1975.
